This project consists of a kitchen that prepares all meals for the schools in Bibb County and a Career Center School. The roof system for the entire project is steel joists supported by structural steel beams and columns. The roof level of the kitchen matches the roof level of the two-story Career Center. The second floor of the Career Center is a 5 ¼" lightweight concrete slab on 2" composite steel deck. This slab is supported by composite steel floor beams and steel wide-flange columns. Bracing for the building is provided by x-bracing and moment connections. The foundations are conventional spread and continuous concrete footings. An interesting feature of the two-story entrance to the Career Center is the monumental stair. This stair is constructed of concrete-filled structural steel channels for the stair treads. These treads and the intermediate landing cantilever form each side of a freeform concrete wall/frame that spans from the foundation to the second floor.
